In 2009, Stefan Logan ran 80 yards at the time of the race

Looking back to 2009, Stefan Logan ran 80 yards in the first quarter of the season against Carolina.

Head coach John Harbaugh emerged from the Ravens’ gut-punch loss to the Giants _ Baltimore surrendered a 66-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on fourth-and-1 with 1:23 left in regulation _ as determined as ever to right the Ravens’ ship.

“I don’t think we’ve played the kind of football we’re capable of playing yet, by far, this year,” he said. “I’m very confident in our guys and our ability to play really good (football and in) our ability to coach really well. I’m excited about where the season is going to go, without question.

“Ben is answering questions. Sometimes in an effort to be transparent and answer the question as honestly you can, it produces other questions. It’s not an issue for me. I understand the nature of the conversation and how this discussion got started. He is going through his normal procedure. The older he gets, the more direct questions he gets in that regard. You guys ran with it. That is your right and responsibility. It’s not my responsibility to overreact to it.”

The splash will really just highlight a larger body of work that’s above the line. We can think back to splash plays, we can think back to 2009 when Stefan Logan ran a punt back 80 yards in the first quarter of this game against Carolina and cemented his position on the roster, but he had a nice body of work throughout that preseason. He had about four or five kick returns a few weeks earlier in Washington that went up past the 50-yard line. Splash tonight will highlight a larger body of work that could be the final nail in the coffin in terms of somebody doing something positive.

“We hadn’t talked quite a bit at all about play or no play,” said Tomlin. “I’m just letting him sort through that process. I just think it’s very reasonable discussion when you get to 35. I think people probably read too much into it and (are) making more out of it than what it is. I would imagine he goes through that thought process. It’s probably not the first year he’s gone through that thought process. And it probably won’t be the last, if he continues. I just think that all of those guys in this game that are north of their early 30s, I think that’s an assessment they go through annually.

The Steelers haven’t drafted a since selecting Landry Jones in the fourth round in the 2013 Draft, but have paid close attention to the position in recent years and know the time will come to find a replacement for Roethlisberger.

“I don’t ever doubt our rushers. I just think we have to be smarter rushers. I think we have to be more aware and just kind of pick up the little things. That means stopping the run. When we do get the pressure, understand the situation. We didn’t stop the screen game last week. When he is getting the ball out and throwing it to the running back, there isn’t a real chance for a pass rush. Those things included I think we will have a better pass rush game. We need to bust that bubble. We got one sack. We don’t really count that. (Arthur) Moats will. We think we can get more tackles for loss and sacks.” LogoArt Pittsburgh Steelers Gold Pendant

And as far as Roethlisberger, he did exactly what his teammates expected, completing 12 of 17 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns and a 136.4 quarterback rating in his first game action.

“He is a veteran, a Hall of Fame like quarterback,” said receiver Antonio Brown. “Any time he is out there we know wat it’s going to be like. A lot of fun and a lot of big plays.”

And as far as his center, you know he is giving Roethlisberger nothing but love.
